These systems use a "one-size-fits-all" strip or tray and so teeth can end up looking "spotty". Also, many products available in the drug store are are of a weak strength, which means you'll probably give up before you see results. "Paint on" whiteners just don't stay in contact with the tooth long enough to be effective.
